Jazz Dance

This fun class is appropriate for all levels and incorporates step learning and then integration into dance moves. This style of Jazz Dance was created by Eugene Louis Facciuto (aka "Luigi"), an accomplished dancer who, after suffering a crippling automobile accident in the 1950s, created a new style of jazz dance based on the warm-up exercises he invented to circumvent his physical handicaps. He is still dancing today and has a studio in NYC.  Our instructor, Val Castrodale, has been a Luigi student for many years and loves to share his work with others.

"A good teacher knows how to prevent injuries," Luigi says. He stresses the importance of using the body properly, telling students to "Take your time - feel what you're doing." He also says, "If you keep doing things right long enough, they'll get better right. But, if you keep doing things wrong long enough, they'll feel right -- wrong."
